Louise Roe Brings The Charm Of Her Rural Home In England’s Cotswolds To The City

“I wanted a feel of the countryside in the city,” says Instagram Star Louise Roe, who began her career as the digital news editor for British Vogue and later worked as a TV presenter in Los Angeles. After a decade in sunny California, Louise and her husband, Mackenzie Hunkin, moved back to England, and Louise’s love of interiors flourished as the pair renovated an 1819 Georgian farmhouse in Oxfordshire. Just 18 months (and one isolating pandemic) later, London beckoned and a late-Victorian townhouse with a 700-square-foot kitchen won the couple over.

“I just knew this was the one after seeing it in a Pinterest photo,” says Louise of the kitchen cabinets’ blue-grey color, the only one she considered. The mother of two was equally decisive about starting her own homewares company, Sharland England, named after her great-granny. “One day, I had a bolt of inspiration to begin designing rattan pieces with a nostalgic feel,” she says. “I did a huge amount of research and found the right workshop in Indonesia, where the artisans pass down their skills from generation to generation.” Louise’s scalloped Hadley tray is right at home in her new kitchen, as are the pair’s daughters, Honor and Inès.
