Oscar-winning actress Cate Blanchett is putting her cool Melbourne house in Australia on the auction block, according to Mansion Global. Cate and her husband, playwright Andrew Upton, have owned the three-bedroom house since 2006. It will go under the hammer in March 2024 with a price guide between $1.47M US and $1.6M US. Redesigned by Alwill Architecture and set over two levels, the property includes an open-concept living and dining area that flows through to the deck and garden, a slick stainless steel kitchen and a loft-style upstairs living space.
Located in Prahran, one of Melbourne’s inner suburbs, the property borders Victoria Gardens and has a secure gate that provides direct access to a five-acre park. The contemporary-style home has a two-tone facade: black-painted wood on one portion of the building, and a natural wood finish on the other.
Inside, the light-filled home has an open-plan hub that combines living, dining and kitchen spaces, backed by a wall of windows. The palette throughout is a cool white, with shapely sofas and dark windows that frame the garden views.
The sunken main living space has a sleek kitchen with matte cabinets, stainless appliances and a mirrored wall that visually expands the space.
Large sliding doors lead to a terrace that’s lushly landscaped. An area rug warms up the cool, polished concrete floors.
The primary suite is on the ground floor and leads out to the veranda, with plenty of closed storage to maintain the minimalist vibe.
The principal bathroom is a wet room, with a large trough-like tub, tiled walls, a floating vanity and a walk-in shower. The large mirrors amplify the natural light.
The remaining two bedrooms are located upstairs: large windows without mullions provide unobstructed views of the tree tops.
The second-storey loft has a lounge and study nook.
Large, feathery specimen trees and bamboo plantings lend privacy when dining on the wood deck. A back gate gives direct access to nearby Victoria Gardens park.
